demandは「権威・権力などを盾に、否応なしに要求する」という意味。強い要求を表わす言葉である。
requestは'request+人+to do'の文型を用いて「人にdoすることを要請する」と表現できるが、demandは同様の形をとることができず、demand to do,demand that+文(SV)で表わす。
requireは「必要とされるために、要求する」、claimは「当然自分のものとして、自分の権利であるとして要求する」という意味を持つ点で異なる。
