researchは're（強意）'+'search（探す）'という意味で、「新しいものを見つけるために細かなところまで調べる」というニュアンスである。主に専門的、学術的な意味で「調査する」「研究する」という意味で用いられ、名詞型では「調査」「研究」「探求」という意味である。surveyは「広範囲における全体的な調査をする」、examineは「何かを判断する前に詳しく調べる」。
